Izvarian rural settlement
Izvarian rural settlement lies in the western part of Russia, Volosovskу areа in Leningrad region. It covers an area of just over 530 square kilometers and has a population of 3447 people (on 1-st of january). The municipality’s administration is based in the village of Izvara.
Izvara is famous for being the home of famous Russian painter, writer, archaeologist, theosophist and public figure Nicolas Roerich. He was nominated (but unfortunately has not received) for the Nobel Peace Prize 1929 1932 and 1935.
A major attraction related to the author is the Museum-estate of N. Roerich, which was officially opened 19 June 1984. July 31, 2006 the Governor of the Leningrad region has signed a Decree on the development of the project of the organization on the basis of the Museum-estate of N. Roerich Museum in Izvara natural reservation. And now on the territory of the municipality one nature reserve, protecting physical features such as wetlands, as well as birdlife and specific flora. The stunning natural beauty of the area is one of the attractions for tourists.
Farming is one of the strongest elements of the local economy and yields around 18 % in tax for the municipality each year.
The municipality of the first level (like ours) has responsibility for:
local planning (land use), local roads (construction,repair and cleaning), water supply and sewer, provision of electricity, heat and gas supply, lighting villages, processing building permits and making planning decisions, ensuring social housing, culture development and much more.
